About

The Cardinal Standard is an independent Cardinals baseball publication focused on thoughtful analysis, historical perspective, and intelligent conversation about the game.

The Cardinals have spent more than a hundred years as as one of baseball’s most consistent contenders — a small-market franchise with annual World Series expectations. From their first championship in 1926 to present day, no other National League team can boast as many as the Cardinals' 11 championship flags. Along the way, the conversation around the team has grown louder, faster, and often more reactionary.

The Cardinal Standard exists to bring perspective back to that conversation.

This publication examines the Cardinals through the lenses of history, analytics, roster construction, player development, and the broader landscape of Major League Baseball.

It is not affiliated with the St. Louis Cardinals or any media organization.

The goal is simple: thoughtful Cardinals commentary rooted in history, analytics, and perspective.
